Gus Dean Caps Off Pro Cup Season With Top 10
Another Top 10 for South Carolina Youngster
October 20
The 2014 CARS X-1R Pro Cup season came to an end at Hickory Motor Speedway this past weekend and Gus Dean finished off a fine season with a sixth-place run.  The Bluffton, South Carolina driver pocketed  his ninth top-10 finish of season in nine starts.

"When the flag dropped the car started behaving completely different then it had all weekend," said Dean.  "We are not sure if it was a bad set of tires or what.  The crew made some real good changes in the second half and we were able to climb back up to sixth.  Having to fight through the crowd is what bit us in the long run."

Most of the second half was spent having to make up for lost ground.  The 16-car field was spread out all over the track and catching lapped cars at the wrong time would slow a driver's progress quickly.

"We spent too much time trying to get people on the bottom," said Dean. "Because of that we ate up the tires and we could not advance.  It was too much ground to make up. Congrats to Caleb Holman on his championship.  They had a great season.  We had a lot of fun and now we'll look to other things and next year."

Dean explained plans are to run Super Late Model on a more regular basis and to perhaps run a select K&N Pro Series schedule or ARCA.  Announcements will be made at a later date.  For now the next scheduled race for Dean is the Super Late Model portion of the North-South Shootout at Caraway Speedway in Sophia, North Carolina on November 1st.
