19-Year-Old Battles with an Ill-Handling Car to Hold on to a Solid Finish at SNMP

Gus Dean strapped into his No. 56 Super Late Model this past weekend to compete in the PASS South’s Dogwood Blossom 150 at Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, North Carolina.  The Bluffton, South Carolina driver came home with a 13th place finish.

“We were struggling a bit.  We tested a few days before and the car was great.  We were happy, the crew was happy, the stopwatch was happy,” Dean said.  “For some reason, some kind of a demon got in the car between practice and race day, because it wasn’t the same.”

Dean struggled with a car that was loose from the center off the corners early on, almost like a dirt car.

“It was a controlled slide, nothing where I felt like I was going to lose it,” Dean said.  “But we were able to hang on and bring it back in one piece.  My crew is going to take the car apart and see if we can diagnose the problem.”

Dean’s next race will be on Saturday, June 28th in the CARS X-1R Pro Cup Series event at Myrtle Beach Speedway in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

“I am really looking forward to that event,” Dean exclaimed.  “My dad’s company, Dean’s Custom Air, will be sponsoring the event and we are hoping to get another win.”

Last month, Gus Dean recorded his first ever Pro Cup win at Memphis Motorsports Park in Memphis, Tennessee.
