Ill-Handling Car Motivates Them for Next Event

Gus Dean entered the CARS Super Late Model Tour season opener at Southern National Motorsports Park (NC) this past Saturday with high hopes.  With his focus set solely on his Super Late Model program, he was confident going in and his day at the Kenly, North Carolina oval got off to a good start.

“We had a strong car when we unloaded at Southern National Motorsports Park,” Dean recalled.  “Petey (Hinson, crew chief) got the car turning real good right away and it got us optimistic for the 150-lap race.”

Dean would go out and qualify 10th for the event and felt he could get a strong finish, but the strong run in the early going subsided around the halfway mark.

“The car handled like a dream in the first part of the race,” Dean said.  “About 60-70 laps in the race, we started to struggle getting forward bite and started to fall back.  The problem is that the right rear tire started to overheat and we lost some grip.  We will go back to the drawing board and get ready for Nashville.”

Dean finished 20th in the event.

Dean and his team will take the weekend off for Easter and then will head to Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in Nashville, Tennessee for the 100-lap Southern Super Series race on Saturday, April 11.
